Also, I didn’t even know how to properly format an e-book when I started.  Initially, I made things through CreateSpace and published on Kindle, which just copied the print version I’d made which really doesn’t look that good in e-books.  It was only when I published on Smashwords that I followed their guidelines for formatting and got it looking far better.  So now all my e-books use that and have  a version of the Smashwords license notes at the beginning, like this:
