Long story short – splitting infinitives in English is absolutely fine.  The reason some people think it’s wrong seems to go back to Latin being far more commonly taught to people and it’s impossible to split infinitives in Latin.  But English and Latin are not the same, so if you’re using English and want to split them, go right ahead.
