I’m at home a lot so I often have to babysit for the rest of the family. For the most part this is quite easy – they only really want to play video games and watch netflix, so I give them a laptop and leave them to it. But I’m pretty comfortable around kids – I actually get along with them far better now than I did when I was actually a kid myself. I guess because when I was a kid I hadn’t been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and autism in general was something we were never taught about.

They sometimes want to know why I don’t like going to all the parties with the rest of the grown ups, and it is very hard to explain. I don’t want to tell them that I’m sick, because I don’t think I am. My brain is just wired differently and doesn’t cope well with a lot of people and noise. I’m not sure they really understand that either though.
