^ This. So much this. Don’t watch this if you’re claustrophobic or can’t stand the sight of lots of blood.
SPOILER – The movie he talks about is Watership Down. If you’ve never seen it, well… it is literally an hour and a half of pure childhood trauma. I too remember being shocked by the G or U rating. They had this in the library at my school… kids could check it out whenever they wanted. I can only assume that the reason it got away with that rating was the prevalent attitude toward animation at that time – that anything animated was just for kids. But really this movie is PG at the very least – never let a child watch it unless you’re very sure you and they can cope with the nightmares they will have for years afterwards.
Seriously – parents need to be warned about this… this thing. There have been other versions of the story that are more child friendly (and I believe the poster he shows is actually from one of those), but it’s true – this 1978 movie did have that rating and it’s always a risk that somewhere in the world a parent will see it and think ‘aww… a cute bunny movie. Little Sally will love that!’. No – Little Sally will be sobbing behind the sofa and never dare set foot outside again.
