Science Fiction Government: *sends in reporters, tanks, military defense, quarantines the area and alerts the public*

Real Life Scientist: We have literally mountains of evidence of how our behaviour is changing climate and creating new diseases, this is very serious.

Real Life Government: meh

True.  In Science Fiction, we’re usually presented with something that’s an immediate threat.  Real life problems can be just as dangerous, but require years and decades to resolve.

So unless Will Smith can shoot climate change in the head, it’s easier for some people to ignore it.
