I’ve reached over 20,000 words in Asterion – the current draft that is. I have written an awful lot more. I spent most of the year writing scenes, trying out all sorts of different ideas that I had. Some I decided didn’t really work, some will be used at some point in the story, some of it may be saved for another story some other time. There are also lots of small changes I already want to make – mostly dialogue tweaks, exta lines of description, more of the characters thoughts.
Now days though, I never throw away anything that I’ve written. Scenes, plots, characters – if I don’t use them this time, they just get consigned to the drawer of purgatory so that maybe in the future I can peer in there and pull it out, if needed.
